A Shift in the Stone
The morning breeze felt cool against my face. When I looked down, my front paw was resting on the edge of the stone. I tried a gentle shift in weight. To my surprise, my paw nudged forward. A tiny crumb of loose mortar rolled a fraction of an inch and stopped against the grey brick. I stayed very still, watching the dust settle. It moved because I moved. Behind me, everything remained tall and quiet, while the solid stone held firm beneath my paws.
