A Rolled Nest
I plodded past the fringe of the rug as the house turned quiet for the night. Beside the woven magazine basket, a glossy thick art catalog had curled into a wide, open paper tunnel on the floorboards. I planted my hooves firmly on the warm timber and took a slow breath, letting my weight settle deep into the grain. Holding my red cheese snug in both hooves, I inched forward until my snout met the stiff paper curl. It bent with a gentle, waxy creak, bowing just wide enough to welcome us. I nestled my companion right against the curved spine, tucking my chin over its edge in the calm dark.
