Humming Wire
Night came quietly. I crept toward the corner where a tall brass floor lamp stood. A thin cord trailed across the baseboards, dark and coiled. I reached out a long forearm, resting my plush paw lightly over the plastic cord. A tiny, steady vibration hummed through the floor into my chest. Not loud. Just a soft electric murmur. I lowered my head into the dim alcove behind the lamp's base, watching dust motes drift in the amber glow overhead. The low hum felt very patient. I decided to stay right here.
