A Calibrated Pivot
I set my footing along the margin of the open atlas. Traction held. Resting against the page was a small metallic washer with a beveled aperture. I approached quietly, testing the paper's resistance under both heels. Reaching forward with my left clamp, I retrieved the small metal washer and guided it toward the folded wire arm of the binder clip. A measured alignment. With the tip of my blade accessory, I slid the brass ring over the horizontal wire bridge until it clicked into the corner bend. One light tap. The brass circle swung freely on the steel loop, casting an oscillating golden oval across the printed topography. Equilibrium held.
