High-Rise Lift
The elevator chimed, and the brushed-steel doors parted. No hesitation. I accelerated across the lobby floor, bounded over the ribbed metal door track, and darted straight into the cabin. The heavy doors slid shut, sealing the metal chamber. Suddenly, the floor gave a low mechanical hum and pressed upward against my axles. A strange, heavy gravity gripped my chassis as the car surged vertically through the shaft. Right across the glossy floor lay a dropped plastic keytag. I gunned my motor, rammed it flush against the steel corner molding, and locked all four tires as the lift eased to a halt.
