A Path of Light

I set both of my blocky feet onto the new wooden stick pathway as the alley plunged into deep night. The smooth timber plank felt solid and steady beneath my joints. Leaning down, I nudged the clear glass marble along the gravel wall until the streetlamp's distant ray caught its center. A brilliant golden beam bent through the glass, traveling straight down the length of the flat walkway. It lit up the crushed thyme bed on either side, reaching the climbing pea vine like a glowing bridge through the dark. Bracing my back against the cedar post, I watched over the illuminated trail in quiet peace.
