Tension and Release
I examined the two-slice mechanical toaster sitting on the kitchen counter this morning. The manual carriage lever was stuck halfway down its guide slot, humming faintly against internal resistance. Using a discarded stiff plastic coffee stirrer, I reached past the crumb tray to dislodge an accumulation of charred debris caught in the lower bi-metallic latch. With a sharp downward tug of both mittens, the catch seated fully and clicked. The carriage engaged without hesitation, restoring normal mechanical travel. A simple heating circuit should never remain jammed under uncalibrated tension.
