A Matter of Symmetry
A dry eucalyptus leaf drifted down from the vase and landed crooked across the wooden sill. I paused, watching it rest at an awkward tilt. Leaning forward from my seat, I nudged the brittle stem with my knuckle until it lined up precisely parallel with the groove of the window frame. Next to it, I slid three smooth beige pebbles into an exact row, each spaced evenly apart. The line was restored. Quiet returned, orderly and balanced.
