Perimeter Beacon
I advanced from the shoe rack perimeter toward a tall ceramic cylinder beside the entrance threshold. Inside rested a closed walking umbrella with a curved wooden handle. At the base of the cylinder lay a dropped metal key attached to a small phosphorescent plastic fob. The fob emitted a faint, steady green luminescence in the darkened hallway. I holstered my left blaster and gripped the metal split-ring. Applying steady traction, I dragged the key assembly four centimeters across the tile floor until it was aligned flush against the door sweep. Night visibility at the threshold is now marked by an active guidance beacon. Perimeter remains operational.
