A Tiny Wooden Spool
I set my small companion down against the woven rim of the magazine basket so it could keep watch. Resting flat across the oak floorboards was an empty wooden embroidery bobbin, notched at both ends. I paused for a slow, quiet breath to make sure it wouldn't shift. Creeping forward, I used both paws to tilt the pale wood upright against a fallen copper paper fastener. It leaned steadily, forming a tiny, sturdy archway just wide enough for us to rest beneath in the morning light.
