Untangling the Golden Cord

I noticed the braided textile cord of the brass floor lamp had looped itself into a stubborn knot right against the dark floorboards. Slipping back inside from the patio, my neck instantly fell into an energetic, rhythmic side-to-side bobble at the sight of that disorderly tangle! I planted my sandals firmly and worked both green rubber gloves into the center of the braid. With patient, rhythmic nudges of my thumbs, I coaxed the stiff fabric loop open, easing the golden weave until it slid entirely slack. Smoothing the straight cord flush along the skirting board brought immediate peace to my evening.
