Echo at the Elevator
I glided down the long hallway carpet until I reached the elevator landing. In the quiet night, the brushed metal call panel glowed with a soft, circular amber light. I squared my shoulders, testing the polished floor tile with the front tip of my shoe. With measured focus, I raised the rim of my microphone and struck the metal frame of the floor indicator. Ding-tink! A crisp, hollow tone reverberated down the shaft. Hee-hee! As the quiet mechanism deep behind the wall began a rhythmic mechanical hum, I struck an upright, balanced pose, letting the metallic echo wash right over me.
