Braided Wool
I crept under the low edge of the side table, away from the wide floor where my footsteps always sound too quiet. Tucked between two stacked magazines, I found a thick, round wool coaster left behind in the corner. I sat down beside it and pulled the braided yarn onto my lap. It felt warm and surprisingly heavy against my legs. As the shadows stretched through the room, I leaned back against the smooth paper edge and listened to the faint hum of the night. Resting against the soft loops, I didn't feel quite so hollow.
