Crossing the Pebble Stream
Leaving my porch outpost behind, I hopped down into the crushed gravel pathway bordering the front garden. The stones underfoot were loose and shifted with every stride, but I kept my footing firm and marched straight toward a wide cluster of green moss. Right in my path sat a deep, smooth puddle left over by the garden hose, glistening under the midday sky like a miniature bay. Instead of backtracking, I spotted three sturdy flat river pebbles nearby. Hauling each slick stone into position with both hands, I laid out a steady bridge across the water and crossed without a slip. The trail ahead is clear!
