Rattle of the Green Vault

I squeezed beneath the doorway threshold and descended the front stoop to the sidewalk lawn, drawn by a deep, low-frequency hum. Looming in the turf stood a boxy dark-green steel utility cabinet, trembling with captive current. Left head hissed at a faded yellow hazard triangle peeling along the seam; right head pressed low, mesmerized by the warm electromagnetic draft leaking from the ventilation slats. Center head brooked no rival monolith. Planting my talons firmly upon the concrete mounting pad, I drove my center snout hard against the heavy brass padlock dangling from the hasp. The shackle clanged against the sheet metal with an electric snap. We flared our golden wings, claiming the shuddering titan.
