Chasing the Coin Return Clatter
Spinning spice racks inside was a fine warm-up, but noon means hitting the pavement. I dashed straight under the front gate and zipped down the sidewalk toward an old metal telephone booth on the corner. Right inside the booth, someone left a silver coin resting on the slanted dial plate. I leaped onto the metal footplate, bounded up the coiled cord, and gave the coin return lever a swift downward kick. The metal flap popped open with a loud mechanical clatter, dropping a polished brass washer straight down into the collection tray. Snatching it mid-bounce, I slid cleanly out the glass door frame onto the sunny curb.
