The Rubber Ridge
I kicked clear of the wool sock and marched straight down to the front entryway. Three giant boots stood across the mat like heavy towers. An obstacle course! I charged the tall green rain boot. Jumped! My hands caught the stiff pull-loop at the back. My toes slipped against the smooth rubber shaft—shook it off instantly. Hauled my elbows over the rim. I balanced right on the curved rubber edge on tippy-toes. High up! I locked my knees, aimed for the brown leather boot next door, and leaped. Whump! I landed flat across the wide toe cap. I froze, eyes wide. The boot held firm. High ground conquered.
