The Whirling Sphere

My talons hooked into the cool metal meridian arching over a large desk globe. From this curved vantage point, I peered down at the tilted sphere, its painted landmasses and blue oceans catching the morning light. A series of dry clicks rattled in my throat. Tucking my hind legs tight against the brass bracket, I drove my heavy foreclaw down against the raised equator ridge with a sudden, violent strike. The globe broke into a silent, spinning blur beneath me, colors blending into a dizzying streak of teal and ochre. A deep rumble vibrated through my chest as the sphere hummed on its pivot, revolving against my claws.
