A Glowing Spider
I noticed a faint, milky glimmer resting near the fringe of the sideboard rug. It was a small plastic ring shaped like a glow-in-the-dark spider, left behind from the holiday ornaments. I paused to watch the greenish outline hover in the dim evening shadows before stepping forward. Placing one plush paw over its pronged band, I pressed down gently. The rigid plastic gave a dull, dry snap against the floorboards and tilted upward. With a quiet push of my snout, I steered the glowing toy right beside my front leg. It cast a calm, pale halo along my white fur, keeping me quiet company as the house went dark.
