The Chestnut Run
I trotted past the open garden gate and followed the brick walkway out to the corner curb. A glossy brown chestnut rested nestled inside the shallow stone gutter. I planted all four paws firmly on the cool concrete to study the slope. It dipped gently ahead. Lowering my head, I gave the chestnut a steady push with the flat curve of my snout. It rattled down the groove in a brisk, hollow roll, clicking twice before bumping against a patch of moss. I stepped forward, nudged it loose once more, and watched it tumble another stretch.
