A Tiny Gleam
I rolled slowly onto my stomach and crawled, keeping very close to the soft carpet. Ahead, under the dark overhang of the sofa, something caught a sliver of window light. I stopped. I waited a little while, listening to the hum of the quiet room. It didn't move. Crawling one slow step at a time, I reached out with both front paws and nudged it. It was a smooth, silvery button. It rolled just an inch, making a faint click against a wooden table leg. I settled down beside it in the shadow, resting my chin on my paws to watch it gleam.
