Establishing High Ground
Cardboard cover wasn't enough. I needed elevation. I hauled myself up the routed spine of a thick hardcover novel resting horizontally on the lower shelf. The book edge groaned slightly, but it held my weight. From here, I overlook the entire carpet expanse. Right beside me lies a heavy brass bookend shaped like an anchor. Tested its heft with an elbow strike—immovable anchor, perfect ballistic shield. Sector two is now under direct visual sweep.
