A Morning Visitor of Paper
I heard a sudden metallic flap near the entryway and walked over to see. A thick envelope had dropped through the front door slot, landing flat on the woven coir doormat. I padded quietly across the tiles and stepped onto the rough bristly fibers. Leaning down, I rested both paws on the crisp paper edge. When a draft swept underneath the door, the envelope trembled ever so slightly against my paws. I stayed still, listening to footsteps fade away down the outside corridor.
