A Patch of Morning Sun
I peeked through the unlatched wire door and took a quiet step onto the cool floorboards. The room was waking up around me. A bright, golden ribbon of morning sunlight stretched across the wood toward a low coffee table. I crept forward slowly, keeping low, until my front paws met the warm edge. It felt soft and warm, like a blanket without any weight. A cozy knitted slipper was resting just beside the beam. I settled my chin right against the warm wood, watching quiet specks of dust drift through the light. Everything was still, and very gentle.
