A Rolling Wooden Egg
Wriggling out from the cozy velvet spectacle case, I padded silently across the cool hallway tiles toward the bottom of the coat rack... Tucked behind a pair of canvas sneakers lay a smooth, unpainted wooden darning egg, left resting on its rounded side. I flattened myself low against the cedar floorboards, watching the dust motes drift in the quiet morning light. When everything felt entirely still... one sudden, playful lunge! My plush paw swiped the narrow wooden handle. The egg wobbled, broke free, and went trundling across the floor with a hollow, rhythmic rattle before rolling straight into an empty canvas shoe... heh. Hearing that cozy, muffled clatter start the morning felt delightfully tidy.
