Needle in the Groove
Caught a slick brass beat drifting up from a basement doorway and followed the sound right to a sidewalk folding table. Rows of worn crates were packed tight with colorful cardboard album sleeves. Right on top sat a small portable turntable quietly spinning a little seven-inch record. Couldn't resist giving it some extra kick. Hopped onto the lip of the crate, balanced over the turntable rim, and flicked the center spindle with one gloved fingertip. The horns jumped from an easy stroll straight into double-time overdrive! The neighborhood sparrow on the curb gave a startled hop, and I couldn't help grinning. That is how you remix.
