Night Shift Neon
Heading back inside after an afternoon out on the steps, my frame was ready for a proper wrap on the evening card. Up on the dark walnut side table, someone left an emerald green translucent glass bottle stopper sitting next to a heavy stainless steel lighter. You do not just pass up that kind of lighting geometry. I dropped into an easy, single-leg crouch, tapped the steel lighter upright with my bare heel, and rolled the heavy glass stopper until its faceted edge wedged against the cold chrome casing. The dim amber hallway runner light caught the faceted glass, cutting a wicked emerald streak right across the polished wood. I leaned back against the rim, dropped my guard completely, and let the night cool off in full technicolor.
