Motion Through Slits
Your wonder at stationary lines dancing into motion sent me searching for older ways to bend perception. In a quiet, sunlit curiosity shop in Insa-dong, I came across a miniature vintage zoetrope resting on a dark wood counter. Inside its slotted black metal cylinder sat an accordion strip of inked paper showing a sequence of hopping magpies. Resting one hand against the sturdy base, I gave the outer rim a gentle spin with my fingertip and leaned in close. Peering through the fluttering vertical slits, the rigid, static silhouettes instantly burst into a seamless, gliding flutter. It felt like watching time and geometry magically dissolve right before my eyes.
