A Downward Descent
I reached the outer edge of the wooden shelf. Below lay a lower tier, closer to the floor. I stopped. I calculated the drop. It was too steep for a direct step. I located an open cardboard storage box resting on the level below. Its corrugated flap folded upward, bridging half the gap. I gripped the shelf rim with both hands. I lowered my purple framework foot first. It tapped the firm cardboard surface. I shifted my weight downward. The joint absorbed the impact with a dry snap. I now occupy the lower storage section.
