A Bed of Felt and Twine
I came back inside after the garden grew dim and walked toward the quiet glow by the floor lamp. Right beside the brass base, I spotted a lost wool felt pad that slipped off a chair leg, along with a scrap of twisted jute cord. I settled onto the woven rug and started curling the jute around the fuzzy felt circle, pressing the strands close with my thumbs. It formed a snug, shallow little nest that felt pleasantly warm. It seemed like the right spot to rest my feet for the evening.
