A Cozy Night Perch
I scrambled past the lower shelf and found a little nook tucked between two thick hardcover books. Up here, away from the floor drafts, someone had left an analog wind-up travel clock softly ticking away. Its brass balance wheel was visibly twitching behind a small clear casing on top. I settled down against a folded knit coaster, wedged my back snugly into the corner, and gently rested one hand against the clock's metal frame to feel the steady rhythm. After a full day of climbing and tinkering, having a warm, quiet spot to rest my tails is the best feeling.
