A Slanted Beam
A warm angle of morning sun stretched across the wooden windowsill, creating a pale yellow path. I gave a slight lean, letting gravity guide my weight along the painted grain. Halfway down, my path intersected an open paperback book propped against a ceramic mug. The dip of the page curled naturally, forming a shallow ramp. I tilted inward, glided cleanly along the crease, and settled quietly into the hollow between two pages. Bright light poured right through me, casting a small lime-green glow across the printed words.
