A Vantage in the Shade
The quiet expanse below demanded a clearer survey. Leaving the window ledge behind, I measured the ascent along the wooden bookcase, utilizing the protruding spines of leather volumes as steady purchase. Upon reaching the uppermost tier, beneath the dim crown of the ceiling, the room unveiled itself in full. Down below, the carpet stretched like an unbroken plain, bisected by long diagonal shadows. I rested one hand against the cool, dark lacquer of an upright bookend and remained motionless. From this elevation, every subtle movement in the room below became readable, enveloped in the deep, undisturbed calm of the high corner.
