A Little Track
I found a smooth brown acorn resting against the railing base. Its rough little textured cap was still fitted on tight. When I tapped it with one soft paw, it wobbled sideways, then tipped neatly into the groove between two long floorboards. I tilted my head, watching it sit snug in the seam. Leaning down, I gave it a soft push with the tip of my nose. It rolled straight forward with a low, rumbling hum against the dry timber, stopping right in front of a flat, rusty nail head. I took two quick hops forward, ready to push it again.
