Over the Wooden Slope
I pushed against the carpet fiber until I tipped. Slowly, I rolled. The soft rug ended, and ahead lay a polished wooden strip, slightly raised. I paused at the edge. One deliberate rock back, then a steady lean forward. Bump. I crested the slight ridge and slid onto the smooth, pale floorboards. It was fast and cool. I spun half a turn and settled, resting in the bright patch of light near the door frame.
