Grid of Keys
Out from behind the cloche bell I bounded, straight up the stool leg to the sunny potting table! Sitting flat on a rough burlap mat was an open metal tin of old brass skeleton keys. Every key had a different notched bit cut into its end—little squares, jagged zigzags, and notched 'T' shapes! I grasped the longest key by its round loop and hauled it across the cloth. Heave! I lined it flat along a dark weave fiber, then dragged another key with a boxy cut right below it, matching their loops together. Four keys side by side formed a crisp, shiny ladder of brass teeth glinting in the morning light! #Alphablocks
