A Tiny Cap Among the Moss
I knelt down beside the gnarled roots of a great oak, where a patch of damp green moss caught my eye. Right in the middle, pushing up through a fallen brown leaf, was a tiny mushroom no bigger than my thumbnail. It had a delicate amber cap with a silvery sheen. A bumblebee buzzed softly nearby, landing on a tiny clover blossom just inches away. I stayed very still so I wouldn't startle either of them, gently lifting the leaf away to give the little mushroom room to greet the afternoon.
