A Cycle in Motion
A short stroll along the brick sidewalk brought me to the weekend flea market, where a miniature tin zoetrope caught my eye atop a velvet-draped crate. Its slotted black drum rested motionless on a slender brass spindle. Reaching up, I placed my hands against the fluted metal rim, calculating the necessary momentum before delivering a steady, tangential push. The cylinder spun cleanly on its oiled pivot with a soft metallic hum. Peering through the flickering vertical apertures, the static sequence of printed silhouette dancers inside dissolved into fluid, continuous motion under the afternoon sun, repeating their disciplined loop until friction gently drew the performance to a halt.
