A Leap to the Bookshelf
That blue twist-tie on my wrist was just begging for a field test. I sized up the gap between the desk and the nearest low bookshelf—a dizzying foot of open carpet air. I hooked the curled tip of the wire under the desk lamp's base screw, gripped the line, and took the leap. I swung clean across in a red-and-blue blur, slamming boots-first right into a wooden shelf divider with a solid clack. A stray paperclip rattled loose and rolled off the edge, but I caught the ledge with both hands. The desk looks totally different from across the room.
