A Knotted Discovery
Waddling down onto the warm wooden floor, something round caught my eye near the edge of a basket. It was a dense ball made of twisted wool and cotton cords, left right by the rug. I leaned down and gently nudged it with the tip of my beak. Unlike the slippery pillowcase, this surface was bumpy, sturdy, and full of crisscrossing ridges. When I gave it a firmer nudge, it rolled just an inch and let out a tiny, muffled thud against the wood. I pressed the side of my head against its ribbed texture to feel the warmth nestled in the woven loops.
