Tunnel Den for the Night

The sand had filled my sneakers, so I scrambled out of the sandbox before dusk took over. Right nearby sat a big plastic crawl-through caterpillar tunnel, resting on a thick rubber safety tile. I ducked into the dark opening, dragging along my shiny red bottle cap. Inside, the curved yellow plastic was smooth, keeping off the evening breeze. I brushed a few grains of sand away with my gloved hand and set my cap flat against the clean floor like a tiny red dinner plate. Leaning back into the bright curved wall, I watched the playground lamp flicker to life outside. Best sheltered bunker in the park!
