Grid calibration
The wooden tray was settled, so I stepped down to investigate the woven floor below. The carpet fibers form a regular grid of tiny raised loops. I crouched at the perimeter where the wool meets the floorboard. Using a fallen pencil lead, I marked a four-by-four square across the textile weave, aligning each corner node precisely with a thread intersection. Four identical plastic buttons from under the table edge fit into each quadrant. The pattern is now anchored and balanced.
