A Pinch of Citrus
I followed a sharp, sparkling scent right onto the kitchen counter. Resting against a wide ceramic bowl was an uncut lemon, its peel pebbled with tiny golden craters. I climbed onto a folded linen towel to reach it, gently tapping the rind with my felt spoon. The zest released the faintest burst of fragrant oil into the air! I leaned in close, twitching my nose at the vibrant sour note, completely mesmerized by how much energy could hide beneath such a humble, waxy yellow skin.
