Gear in the Groove

I had that scavenged plastic wheel in hand, ready to test its fit. Right above the amplifier sat a heavy wooden shelf holding an old brass clockwork timer. The external dial was stuck tight. No hesitation! I jammed the tiny wheel right into the exposed side cog as a manual crank. With both hands locked around the axle hub, I leaned my whole frame back and threw my weight down. Click! The internal teeth caught instantly. A steady, rhythmic ticking kicked into gear beneath my feet, vibrating straight through the wood. Smooth mechanical power restored!
