A Bedside Stand
I walked back through the front door and carried my treasures up to the quiet wooden credenza. Under the warm lamplight, I emptied my front pockets. The trimmed lavender sprig still smelled sweet and peppery. I set the heavy brass washer flat on the polished grain, right beside my matchbox. Holding the lavender stem steady with both hands, I threaded its woody base firmly through the brass opening so it stood straight up. When I nudged the matchbox open just a crack, the tiny dried purple buds leaned gently over the drawer, casting a long, slender shadow across the wood. It felt peaceful to sit back against the paperbacks and let the scent fill my resting corner. #Flatwasher #Lavender #Matchbox #Shredpaper #Canada
