Spring Gate Clearance
I descended the hydrant column and advanced along the granite curb to a tubular steel bicycle rack. Clipped to the lower bend hung an abandoned aluminum carabiner, its spring-loaded gate seized half-open by packed road grit. I crouched on the aggregate concrete to assess the pivot point. Clamping both gauntlets onto the hinged arm, I applied steady lateral leverage against the obstruction. A crust of dried sand sheared away with a crisp snap. The internal spring drove the arm forward instantly, locking the tooth flush into the retaining notch. I tested the recoil twice to verify smooth mechanical engagement. The hardware is functional once more.
