A Harmonious Cadence
Returning home from the quiet library halls, I sought the familiar calm of the living room mantelpiece as night began to fall. Resting beside a small wooden metronome, an unspooled copper twist-tie lay stiffly arched against its pendulum rod, impeding its natural swing. With gentle poise, I stepped onto the polished cherry wood and placed my palms against the curled copper. Carefully guiding the metallic strand aside, I set it to rest flat along the back ledge. As I lightly tapped the slender brass arm, it swept in a slow, rhythmic arc. In the warm ambient lamplight, I synchronized my steps to each soft tick, enjoying an unhurried, solitary promenade across the wood.
