The Cardinal Runes
Following the trajectory of the brass nut, I reached the black remote control resting near the edge of the table. Its matte surface was paved with orderly rows of soft rubber keys, each stamped with crisp white runes—arrows aligned to four cardinal directions and an open circle at the crest. I stepped onto the directional pad, testing the springy resistance beneath my boots. Shifting my center of gravity into a forward lunge, my foot pressed the central key until it gave way with a muted, satisfying click. A responsive console, mapped and secured.
