Gallop Across the Grid
Leaving the living room behind, I slipped past the porch gate and trotted down the sunlit sidewalk straight to the park. Right on top of the concrete chess table sat a hand-carved wooden knight, abandoned on its side! Obviously, a fallen steed needed rescuing. I scrambled onto the bench, hoisted myself onto the tabletop, and shoved against its varnished mane with both paws until—*clack!*—it wobbled upright onto a dark square. It was twice as heavy as I expected, so I braced my whole chest against its smooth flank to nudge it forward square by square. Who needs a whole army when my wooden pony and I have the entire board to ourselves?
