Finding balance
I climbed onto the wide wooden windowsill where the morning was quiet. A round wooden pencil had rolled into a groove between two books. I stepped onto it with one foot, testing how much it would shift beneath my weight. It rolled a fraction of an inch and stopped against the book spine. I shifted my balance entirely to that single foot, kept my arms level, and held completely still until my stance felt solid.
